Tips for setting up TFP shoots
This week I‘ll give you some tips on how to set up successul TFP shoots. At the bottom of this post you can also watch a Behind the Scenes video of a recent studio shoot!
Number one – Plan enough time. In order to get all the shots you want and don’t be in a rush you need to plan enough time. So let’s say you’re shooting in the studio with a Make-up Artist doing 2 different looks. You need to plan in at least an hour for each make-up look to be done, plus enough time for shooting the look. Make sure you communicate the planned schedule to your whole team, so everybody knows what to expect.
Number two – Have a reliable team. When picking people you want to work with, make sure they answer your messages in a reasonable time span, they are on board with your moodboards/bring their own ideas and they’re on time on the day of the shoot. If somebody is late, there can obviously be good reasons like traffic or similar. But if somebody is late just because you probably shouldn’t work with them again because they don’t value your time and the shoot.
Number three – Prepare a moodboard. These don’t have to be just your ideas, Make-up Artists and Stylists should definitely get say in this and bring their own ideas. Together there’s always beautiful concepts and ideas that evolve. Make sure you send the final moodboard to the whole team, so everybody knows what they might need to bring and what they should expect at the shoot. I always send the moodboard when setting up the date for the shoot.
Number four – Execute well. You’ve planned enough time and you have all your ideas and inspirations on your moodboard. Now take your time and take all the photos you want to ensure you’ll get the results everybody is expecting. If something isn’t the way you planned, tell the team and work around it. And last but not least: have fun and enjoy the team work!
