Lightroom Presets explained

Lightroom Presets are basically high quality Filters you can use in the Desktop Version or also in the free mobile App. You can create your own or buy someone else’s you really like. A lot of Photographers really like working with Presets and today I’m going to go over all the benefits Presets have!

The benefits of working with Presets

Presets are often looked down on a little bit, because a lot of people use them just as slap-on-filters. But you don’t need too do that and that’s not what they’re for at all.

Presets are made to save you time when editing, and to make your work look coheisive. If you have a Preset saved, you can simply apply that to whatever photo you’re working on and you don’t have to take care of the whole color grading process.

Obviously you still have to adjust things and make changes, because no Preset is a one-fits-all. But it saves you a lot of time when starting the edit.

Which Presets to buy?

I’ve bought my fair share of other photographer’s Presets and of course the classic VSCO pack as well. But I don’t really use any of these Presets and I never really have. Why you might wonder? Well because I thought that my photos would look just like those other photographer’s photos, but in order for that to happen you would need to photograph in the exact same way as that other photographer does.

So instead of purchasing a preset pack with a very specific look or very extreme colors for example, stick with something basic and natural you can adjust to your own style. It’s absolutely great to start off with some good Presets and build your own style off of them.

There’s Desktop Presets and Mobile Presets – you can only use these on your computer or on your phone. So make sure when you buy Presets that you know which ones you’re buying.
